Preminilary Task

Image result for 180 degree rule
This our preliminary task, in this we shot a short clip where we used to 180 degree rule, this is where you shoot everything from the same side so that everything in the shot looks in place and is not confusing. This is an example of how the 180 degree rule works. This is used because if the camera suddenly swapped sides the footage may look unnatural to the audience as the characters would be at opposite points on te screen which would create confusion among some audience members.

What Have You Learnt About Technologies From The Process Of Constructing This Product?  Within the opening sequence we used many different programmes and technologies to help us create our final media product, we used both technologies that we knew and ones that weren't familiar with us. In each process that we went through there were technologies that we haven't used before such as:

Research and Planning
Powtoon
Prize
Slide Share
Emaze
Survey Monkey
Mac Computer
Blogger
Adobe Photoshop

Piktochart

Filming
DSLR Camera
GoPro

Editing
Adobe Premier Pro

Whilst creating our final media product we had to use programmes that we weren't familiar with before starting the course, this helped us widen our understanding of media software and gave us great experience while using them. Firstly, I found out about so many different presentation software within the research and planning task, one of these being piktochart, piktochart is a programme that allows you to create cool info graphics and presentation posters. This allowed me to make my coursework visually appealing and also added a  fun element to the project, using this programme insured that I wouldn't use programmes like PowerPoint too much and also gave my work a bit of diversity.

Survey Monkey is a programme that I had used prior to this course but I had only used it on one occasion so using it again was rather challenging
however, Survey Monkey is an extremely useful tool to use when gathering data especially for research tasks as you can place the questionnaire on somewhere like a action/adventure blog so that you get specific replies from your target audience this is a lot better than placing it on somewhere like Facebook where you would get rubbish responses that don't fit into your target audience. As well as this Survey Monkey allows you to get answers that are specific to your work as you can customise it yourself, another feature that makes this piece of software amazing is that it gathers all of your data and processes them into different forms, that can be either a table, graph or pie chart. This made creating tables and graphs so simple as you could just copy them from Survey Monkey rather than having to create them on your own in a different piece of software.

When we moved onto the filming process we had to learn how to use the DSLR cameras, however learning how the cameras worked wasn't the issue, the most challenging part to the task was being able to manipulate the camera in ways that will make the shots unique and make a difference to our piece, this was sometimes very difficult as we was working in tight allys with small amounts of room which was not ideal for a tri-pod however we overcame that problem with changing the angle, height and position of shots which allowed us a lot more room. Having more room for a shot allowed us to manipulate the camera more than before as we could think of more imaginitve ways to do the shot which fitted the genre a lot better. As well as the DSLR camera our group also used the GOpro, we used a GOpro as a chase scene was a mian part of the film and seeing it from the first person view added a different element to the film and made it rather individual. This also gave the film a different edge with it looking at times mysterious as you couldnt see anyones face just the setting and whats was going on in the background.

Evaluation: Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Within any opening sequence there are many conventions that will highlight what genre the film is and make sure that the audience know that it is a opening sequence and not a trailer. Conventions such as titles are used in an opening sequence to make sure the theme, mood and setting of the film is portrayed from the start and gives a real indication of how the film is going to be from then on out. A perfect example of this is Django: Unchained, in this opening sequence the titles are given a western feel and also are made to look like they are old, this is to set the scene and show the audience in which time period the film is going to be set. These titles are a good example as they are different to normal titles which mean they stand out a lot more and also fit the genre of action extremely well, as well as setting the scene the titles also give the film a gritty feel which links to the film later on as the film does involve a lot of violence and blood.

Another convention of opening sequences is an establishing shot, establishing shots are used in the opening sequence to make the audience realise where the film will be set throughout the rest of the film. An establishing can be used can also set the tone and mood for the rest of the film because if the establishing shot was of an old creepy warehouse or abandoned building then you would expect the film to be a horror movie or a thriller as this type of building would be seen in these genres.

As well as this, close ups are another convention of an opening sequence. close ups can be used in two ways, theses are to highlight who the main characters are or to make a character obscure and hide from the camera. This keeps the audience guessing who that character is and makes the audience want to keep watching the film, as well as this close ups are used to connote the genre that they are in like extreme close ups are used more in action-adventures and thrillers whereas close ups are just used in dramas to show a key moment within the film.

Production idents are a convention of opening sequences, Production Idents are there to show the audience who produces the film, this is also there to make the company gain publicity and show directors which production company to use, that if the film suits there budget and genre.

Main characters are introduced in the opening sequence so that the audience can recognise who they are and are familiar with them throughout the rest of the film. main characters are important In an opening sequence as the main protagonists and antagonists need to be shown so that the audience know who to support for the remainder of the film. It is key that they are shown at the start as they are the most important people in the film so it wouldn't make sense if they were introduced 10 minutes in because then the audience would be confused as the timing would be off.

Whip pan tutorial

http://youtu.be/TjAv2vRlvqE As we are making an action/adventure opening sequence i decided to research a 'whip pan shot'to try and add another dimention to our sequence, this is also a very good shot for our opening sequence as it is a chase scene so therefor the quick movement might beefit our shots round tight corners or onto different roads which will also speed up the pace of the sequence.

Our Cast

Process of our group filming

These are shots of our group whilst filming in the locations that we chose for our sequence. These shots include pictures of us filming and setting up equipment, as well as the set that we were filming in. Although these filming sessions were rather long we managed too get great shots out of them resulting in an all round better sequence

Shooting Schedule

This is our groups shooting schedule, we made a shooting schedule to make sure that all of our shots are recorded and so that we know exactly when we are filming as a group. this means that we can be more organized and there be a slim chance of anything going wrong as everyone know what to wear and where to be on specific dates.

Our Chosen Soundtrack

We decided to choose this soundtrack as the track for our sequence, we decided that this would be perfect for the chase sequence as it has a fast tempo which can keep up with with the chase sequence which is one of the main conventions of an action/adventure film. This soundtrack also would appeal to our target audience which are males under 25.

Improved Anamatic

We improved our animatic according to the feedback we got from our peers. One thing they said to improve was the soundtrack, they said it did not go with the vibe of the film but it felt more like a jungle themed film. We changed the soundtrack to a more gritty city based theme which goes very nicely with the style of the film. Another improvement we have to do is finish it which we did so the opening sequence will make sense. Now, the opening should make it clear on what is going on.

Costume List

Below is our Costume List post which is a list of costume and clothing items which we will use for our opening sequence. We also planned which camera shots the costume items will appear, during the opening sequence.

Distribution Company

Our group has decided to choose StudioCanal as our distribution company, we done this for many reasons one of them being that StudioCanal are known for making films for our genre, which is action/adventure. They have been known to make massive blockbuster action/adventure films such as Terminator 2: Judgment Day, as well as making action/adventure films they also make big budget films that are very popular within today's society. This is evident with Johnny English which grossed $160,583,018 shortly after its release. StudioCanal have also been known for there Hollywood blockbuster movies which shows that they are the ideal distribution company for our group as they tick all the boxes for the film that we want to create
